We offer sashiko and boro classes and workshops throughout Australia.
With step-by-step expert instruction from sashiko designer Sue Howie and special guest tutors, classes cater to all skill levels, from beginners keen to learn the basics of sashiko stitching, through to intermediate and experienced crafters looking to refine their sashiko embroidery skills, or delve a little deeper into the history and ethos of boro. Our in-person workshops give attendees the opportunity to learn more about and work with many of the traditional sashiko patterns and designs, as well as encourage students to upcycle and think creatively with unused fabric.
Class or workshop projects typically include sashiko or boro-inspired table runners, wall hangings, noren panels, placemats, and coasters. Students work with pre-printed sashiko patterns, as well as designs transferred onto fabric for stitching, resulting in beautiful, decoratively-stitched textiles to take home.

About Sue Howie
Workshop Tutor
Sue Howie, teaching under the banner of Sashiko Australia, has devoted more than twenty years to the thoughtful practice and refinement of Sashiko and Boro.
Rooted in tradition and guided by patience, her work honours the quiet discipline and enduring beauty of these textile arts. While much of her time is dedicated to designing original Sashiko panels for others to enjoy, it is in teaching — sharing knowledge, story, and stitch — that she finds deep fulfilment.
Each workshop is an invitation to slow down, to stitch with intention, and to connect through cloth and conversation.
Sue would be honoured to visit your Guild, Quilt Group, or Shop to conduct a workshop. You are also warmly welcomed to gather in her Studio for a creative experience grounded in tradition and shared learning.
