Our quilting and textile retreats offer an immersive experience, allowing guests to engage in a variety of projects over several days, including sashiko and boro. Here some answers to the more frequently asked questions about our quilting and textile retreats.
I’m new to sewing, quilting, sashiko, and/or textile arts in general—are these retreats right for me?
All of our retreats include workshops and projects catering to a range of skill levels, including beginners. Depending on what is being taught, a starter element is generally always included, with projects for the more advanced stitchers always on offer.
What do I need to bring?
For the sashiko and boro components of our retreats, the general requirements are: a sashiko needle, sashiko thread (or similar), small scissors, rotary cutter, cutting mat, a biro, ceramic pencil (sewline or Bohin) or similar. Other sewing requirements are included to suit specific retreat workshops.
What is provided?
Expert tutoring in a broad range of textile arts including quilting, sashiko, and boro. For the sashiko and boro parts of our retreats, we will always ensure that each class has access to any sashiko or quilting requirements not listed above.
I live locally. Can I attend for one day?
If you live close to the retreat venue, you are welcome to email sue@sashikoaustralia.com.au to arrange attendance for the day.
