Inspiration for Stitching the Japan-Inspired Collection of Sashiko Panels

I’ve finished stitching five designs from the Sashiko Australia Japan-Inspired Collection of sashiko panels. I used a combination of plain white and variegated sashiko threads to accentuate the designs and create a nice contrast against the dark indigo fabric.

Geisha (JP01)

The Geisha sashiko panel is a ‘sampler’ size panel featuring a design of a geisha-inspired figure with a scattering of Japanese flowers.

Butterfly Koi and Plum Blossom (JP02)

The Butterfly Koi and Plum Blossom sashiko panel features a beautiful design of butterfly koi and plum blossoms (mume). I used an autumn-toned variegated thread for the koi.

Butterfly Koi and Lotus Flower (JP03)

Butterfly Koi and Lotus Flower Sashiko Panel—a lovely design of butterfly koi, lotus flower (hasu), and plum blossoms (mume), stitched using a combination of white and variegated threads.

Japanese Flowers and Seven Treasures (JP04)

The Japanese Flowers and Seven Treasures Sashiko Panel features lotus flowers (hasu), plum blossoms (mume), and the seven treasures (shippo-tsunagi) traditional sashiko pattern. This was one my favourites to stitch, particularly the different colour shades for the lotus leaves.

Butterfly Koi and Blossom Runner (JP05)

The Butterfly Koi and Blossom Sashiko Runner features a design of butterfly koi and plum blossoms (mume). This will look beautiful as a table runner.
