I recently stitched four Sashiko Australia designs printed on indigo Japanese fabric: Wildflowers, Geometric Floral and Australian Natives Series. I experimented with different colours of sashiko thread to accentuate the various types of flowers, and I’m very pleased with the outcome.
Wildflower Boutquet Sashiko Runner (WF05) – Wildflowers Series
For the Wildflower Bouquet Sashiko Runner, I chose the indigo fabric variant. I stitched the design with variegated sashiko thread, and then added some striped Japanese fabric to create a beautiful table runner.
Australian Native Flowers Sashiko Panel (AN04) – Australian Natives Series
Below is the Australian Native Flowers 4 Sashiko Panel in indigo. I stitched the design using a combination of variegated and plain sashiko threads. This beautiful sashiko design features Eucalyptus, Protea, Wattle, and Warratah Australian native flowers.
Interlocking Geometric Runner (GF05) – Geometric Floral Series
To stitch the Interlocking Geometric Runner, I chose a plain white sashiko thread to create a traditional contrast with the dark indigo fabric.
Daffodil Sashiko Panel (WF03) – Wildflowers Series
To stitch the indigo variant of the Daffodil Sashiko Panel, I selected a combination of canary yellow and white sashiko threads. A lovely result that I may incorporate as a quilt block.
